Rev. Paul Redmond


Rev. Paul V. Redmond was a Catholic Priest, Mount Professor, and the last surviving member of the Council of Priests, the former governing body of Mount St. Mary’s University.

Paul was born on July 28, 1927, to the late Jerome V. and Nona (Sullivan) Redmond in Albany, New York.

Paul graduated high school from Vincentian Institute in Albany, NY and then attended Saint Andrew’s Preparatory Seminary in Rochester, NY.  He received a Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees and a Licentiate in Sacred Theology, all from The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC.

Paul was ordained a Roman Catholic priest for the Diocese of Albany, NY on June 12, 1954.  He was then assigned as Assistant Pastor at Saint John’s Church, Rensselaer, NY, serving there for fourteen months.

In 1955, Father Paul was invited to join the faculty of Mount St. Mary’s College (now University) as Dean of Freshman and professor of philosophy.  He remained an active professor and administrator at the Mount until 1997, holding various positions including department chairs of theology and philosophy, dean of freshmen and vice president.  Father Paul was the last surviving member of the Council of Priests, the former governing body of Mount St. Mary’s University.

In addition to his teaching, Father Paul assisted with weekend services for seven years in the 1960s and 70s at Saint Mark’s Church in Catonsville, MD.  Upon his retirement from the Mount, he continued his service to the Church at Saint Anthony’s Shrine, in Emmitsburg, MD, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, in Thurmont, MD until 2011.
Paul died on October 19, 2014, at the age of 87 at Saint Catherine’s Nursing Center in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
