Bengt Öste


Bengt Alfred Öste was a Swedish journalist. He is best known for his many years of involvement as a news anchor in the Report News Program.

Öste worked as editing director and editorial secretary at Svenska Dagbladet before becoming editor of the Idun Weekly Journal in the 1960s. In 1971 he joined the newly launched TV2 and began the news report for Rapport, where he worked until retirement in 1992. He was also the program leader of the fish program Visst naps det fra 1980, wrote articles in the official fishermen's official body and wrote several books about sport fishing. He participated in the Dagar program that shook Sweden in TV3.

Öste was involved in the social debate against driving under the influence, since his daughter was hit by a drunk driver. In the late 1980s and 1990s, Bengt Öste was involved in Smokepeace's smokers' association. He died from complications associated with Alzheimer's disease in 2004.
