Richard J. Walsh

Richard J. Walsh was the founder in 1926 of the John Day Company, a New York publishing firm. 

Born in Lyons, Kansas, in 1886, he was the son of Joseph H. Walsh and Elizabeth Haslam. In 1908 he married Ruby H. Abbott. In 1910 they lived in Reading, Massachusetts, and had a daughter, Natalie. Richard began his publishing career as a writer. He and Ruby had a son Richard John in 1912 and divorced at some point before 1935. He married Pearl S. Buck, one of his authors, in 1935.

He died in 1960 in Pennsylvania and was buried at Green Hills Farm Grounds, Perkasie, Pennsylvania.
